Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat against Como as Cesc Fabregas's tactically disciplined side delivered a European performance to remember.
Como needed only two minutes to take control. Nico Paz struck the opening goal before creating the second for Anastasios Douvikas shortly after halftime. Paz then added another himself, while Jacobo Ramon headed home Como's fourth in the 76th minute. Joshua Zirkzee scored United's late consolation.
How Como dismantled United
This was much more than an underdog taking its chances. Como were compact without the ball, coordinated their pressure intelligently and attacked the spaces around United's midfield whenever possession changed hands.
Paz repeatedly found space between United's defensive and midfield lines. When defenders stepped toward him, Como immediately released runners into the channels. When United stood off, Paz carried the ball forward and punished them directly.
United never recovered
Conceding after two minutes immediately disrupted United's intended approach. Their midfield struggled to control transitions, the defensive line appeared disconnected, and their attacking possession produced little threat until the contest was effectively over.
The result was United's worst European defeat since 1994 and increases the pressure surrounding manager Michael Carrick. Como, meanwhile, looked confident, organized and completely deserving of their victory.
FootyTactix verdict
Como's victory demonstrated what a clear tactical identity can accomplish. They defended together, moved the ball with purpose and attacked United's structural weaknesses relentlessly.
Nico Paz supplied the individual brilliance, but this 4-1 result belonged to the entire Como system.
