Hakimi Hits Hat-Trick as PSG Sweep Past Le Havre 5–1
← Back to Football News

Achraf Hakimi scored three goals and supplied two assists as Paris Saint-Germain beat Le Havre 5–1 on Friday, October 30, turning an early setback into an emphatic away victory. The full-back’s contribution touched every PSG goal and gave the visitors an unusually productive attacking outlet from defence.

The result took PSG to 20 points from nine Ligue 1 matches and extended their winning sequence to nine games across all competitions. At the end of Friday’s action, they stood two points ahead of Lille. Those positions describe the table after Friday’s matches, rather than a completed weekend.

How the match turned

Josh Maja put Le Havre ahead in the 18th minute. PSG responded through Mika Godts eight minutes later, with Hakimi providing the final pass. The Moroccan then scored himself in the 28th minute, finishing at the near post to complete a rapid turnaround.

After the interval, Hakimi converted a free-kick in the 55th minute. He subsequently released Senny Mayulu for PSG’s fourth before completing his hat-trick with a deflected effort in the 69th minute. What began as an uncomfortable evening had become a decisive win well before the closing stages.

PSG’s post-match coverage identified it as Hakimi’s first career hat-trick. Speaking to the club’s television channel, he emphasised the team’s response to conceding and the importance of the victory alongside his personal achievement.

Luis Enrique’s assessment was positive but included a clear qualification. The coach acknowledged that PSG had struggled against counterattacks, including the move that produced Le Havre’s goal. He also praised the chances his side created and the standard of the individual performances.

FootyTactix analysis: the extra attacker changes the problem

Hakimi’s contribution illustrates why a full-back can be so difficult to contain when he becomes an additional attacker. Defenders begin with familiar reference points: the centre-forward, the winger and the nearest attacking midfielder. A runner arriving from deeper can force an extra decision precisely when those defenders are already occupied.

That does not mean every forward run is automatically dangerous. Timing matters. Arrive too early and a defender can adjust; arrive too late and the passing opportunity disappears. The value lies in entering useful space while a teammate can still deliver the ball.

For an opponent, the choice can become uncomfortable. A wide midfielder can follow the run, but doing so may push the team deeper and reduce its options when possession is recovered. A defender can step out instead, potentially opening a gap elsewhere. Neither response is necessarily wrong, but both require coordinated movement.

The scoring sequence also offers a useful distinction between repeatable attacking principles and an exceptional individual return. A well-timed run or a pass into space can be developed on the training ground. Three goals and two assists from one full-back should not become the expected weekly output.

PSG can take encouragement from the variety of routes to goal without assuming that every match will produce the same reward. An attack becomes harder to defend when the player creating one chance can finish the next. The challenge is maintaining that variety when opponents close the space more effectively.

The warning inside a comfortable result

Luis Enrique’s comments about counterattacks deserve attention because an aggressive full-back changes the defensive picture too. When one player advances, the teammates behind and alongside him must decide who protects the space he leaves. Good attacking positioning and good defensive protection have to work together.

The first response after losing possession is especially important. Pressure on the ball can delay an opponent long enough for the team to recover. If that pressure is bypassed, defenders may face a much larger area to cover. A comfortable final score does not erase the need to improve those moments.

That is the balanced reading of this performance. PSG delivered a commanding response and Hakimi produced the defining contribution, but the coach still identified something to correct. The most useful lesson is the combination: preserve the attacking ambition while tightening the protection behind it.

For now, the outcome is clear. PSG collected another three points, and Hakimi left Le Havre with a hat-trick that placed a defender at the centre of the night’s attacking story.
